Jim Dermon was born in New York, raised in New Hampshire and attended school in Vermont. Jim married Janice Tullis in 1968, and they have two children and three grandchildren.  Jim and Jan currently live in The Woodlands, TX.

In 1974, Jim received Jesus as his personal Savior.  He was involved with First Baptist of Concord, California as a lay pastor to the Deaf. He was called to be Associate Pastor (bi-voc) at Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church, Houston in 1993, and went to Russia twice as a part of mission teams. He currently is teaching Deaf Sunday School class.

Jim was SBCD Treasurer for 1992-2009, and past SBCD President (2010-2011).

Jim retired from Lone Star College System last August. He had several preaching assignments and one mission tour covering Northeast U.S.A. last year.
